Kullu Manali

KULLU TOURISM Known as the ‘Valley of Gods’, Kullu is a cluster of beautiful valleys in Himachal Pradesh. Located between the majestic Himalayas and river Beas, Kullu is situated at an altitude of 1230 m. Kullu, along with Manali, are favorite hill stations with tourists especially honeymooners. Scenic views and snow-clad mountains, towering Deodar jungles, rivers and apple orchards have attracted several feature filmmakers too. Kullu is a hot-spot for adventure sports. Trekking, river rafting, mountaineering, paragliding and hiking over the Himalayan glaciers are some of the activities that Kullu offers. Angling is another activity enjoyed a lot by locals as well as tourists. Mountaineering beginners can trek around the Beas Kund region, Hanuman Tibba and Deo Tibba. Most of the trekking trails are situated beyond the Rohtang Pass in the valleys of Spiti, Lahaul, Zanskar and Ladakh and private companies organize expeditions for up to 12 days. The hot springs of Kheerganga , Manikaran, a pilgrimage and the Great Himalayan National Park are a few of the ‘touristy’ places worth visiting here.

Tirthan Valley

Tirthan Valley lies on the banks of River Tirthan. The area is known for the Trout fishing and access to Great Himalayan National Park. Tirthan Valley Area is green and good for trekking, overnight camping, river crossing and all kinds of adventure activities. Tirthan Valley is a renowned adventure centric getaway. Situated besides the Tirthan River in Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 1600 meters, Tirthan Valley is a gateway to the Great Himalayan National Park. A place where one can easily forget the world to relax and have loads of nature walks following one trail or the other, into the woods or besides the river. One can amazingly feel the nature in pure bliss here. If nature walks are the thing you like or even Trout Fishing then just head Tirthan. There are a lot of treks ranging from 4-15 days even which an avid trekker can explore and reach as high as 4000 meters approximately. In all it’s an ideal place for camping, bonfires, playing music, getting together to know each other (helpful in team or relation building, eating out, lazing etc.. and the list goes on to make it complete holiday destination.

Hot Springs at Manikaran

Manikaran is 45 km. from Kullu. Manikaran lies in the Parvati valley of Kullu district. The spring are situated near the bank of Parbati river. These are confined to several groups of hot water springs emerging at various locations spreading upto a distance of about 1.3 kms. along the river from the old bridge to Brahmaganga. The springs at Manikaran come out to surface with pressure and are very hot. There is no sulphur or iron mixed in the waters, but it is said to be radio active. The water of these springs is so much hot that pulses ( dal ), rice, vegetables etc. can be boiled and cooked in it. There is a Gurudwara here serving visitors and provides night stay. In the Gurudwara, the dal, rice and vegetables are boiled in the hot water and served to the visitors after cooking them fine and surprisingly the meal is tasty. Vegetables etc. are cooked in a pan resting on the hot water. Usually the meal is cooked fine in 20 minutes. Even 'chapatis' are cooked by immersion.

Great Himalayan National Park

The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), located in the state of Himachal Pradesh lies within the Parvati valley of Kulu division. Its boundaries are also contiguous with the Pin Valley National Park. The Park supports a rich diversity of flora and fauna including mammals like Musk Deer, Himalayan Tahr, Bharal or Blue Sheep. The lower hills are home to both Serow and Ghoral. Snow Leopard is present in the Park, as are Himalayan Black and Brown Bear. Of the more spectacular birds, this Park is home of the Monal Pheasant and the rarer Western Tragopan. Other species include the Himalayan Griffon, the Lammergeier, Golden Eagle, Slaty-headed Parakeet, and Great Himalayan Barbet.


Jama Masjid

Bijli Mahadev Temple Bijli-Mahadev temple is a ‘Kash’ style temple that has a “Shiva-Lingam”. This temple is situated in a meadow with lush green forests in the surroundings, 14 KM from Kullu. This place got its name after the great miracle that occurs occasionally. The ‘Shiva-Lingam' is struck by lightening and it breaks into pieces, then the priest of the temple collects all the pieces and joins them together with the help of butter acting as an adhesive. During ‘Shivaratri’ every year, great rush of devotees gather here to pay homage to Lord-Shiva. It is located at an altitude of about 2,438 m in the Kullu Valley, Bijli Mahadev is one of the excellent temples in India. Located 14 km from Kullu, it can be approached by a difficult but rewarding trek of 3 km. A panoramic view of Kullu and Paravati valleys can be seen from the temple. The 60 feet high staff of Bijli Mahadev temple glistens like a silver needle in the sun. In this temple of lightning it is said that the tall staff attracts the divine blessings in the form of lightning. It is believed that the priest of the temple has to restore the Shiva-lingam placed inside the temple using butter and sattoo after every lightning as it shatters to pieces with flash of lightning

Kheer Ganga

Khirganga is situated in Parvati Valley at a distance of 22 km from Manikaran. For Khirganga, one has to go by motor-able road up to a place called ‘Barshaini’ and from there to Khirganga on foot. This trek leads through hilly terrain. This is the place where ‘Kartik Ji’, the elder son of ‘Lord Shiva’ remained in ‘samadhi’ for thousands of years. Kheer Ganga is one of the most refreshing treks that you can go on anywhere. The natural hot-water-spring experience is something that you will remember for a lifetime. Most people who reach this place always come back for seconds as there you can simply not get enough of such a place. The place is open for about 7 months in a year and is not permanently inhabited.


Vaishno Devi Temple

Mata Vaishno Maha Devi Tirth is located just 5 km from Kullu on Kullu-Manali National Highway No. 21. Mahadevi Tirth named after Goddess Parvati – also called Mahadevi, stands tall since 1966, in the beautiful Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh. The foundation of Mahadevi Tirth was laid in 1962 when “Swami Sewak Das ji Maharaj” in search of eternal peace came to this place and found Mahadevi’s abode in the mountains.Swami Swak Das ji, the founder of Mahadevi Tirth was the one to preach and practice “Nishkaam Karmseva” – “Selfless Service” with his wonderful magnetic spirituality and love for all the living kinds. Swami ji during his life span, practically showed us how to follow the path of “Selfless Service”.


Hanogi Mata Temple

Hanogi Mata Temple is located approximately 36 km away from Kullu. This shrine is one of the most sacred temple attractions of Kullu dedicated to Hindu Goddess Hango Mata. Sri Guru Nanak Devji Gurudwara

Gurdwara Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, also called Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib is situated in Manikaran, in Kullu District, 45 KM away from Kullu. The place was visited by Guru Nanak Dev during his travels. The serene location and the seemingly mysterious hot springs made Manikaran (Kullu) a place of pilgrimage in earlier times. Guru Nanak, the first Guru of the Sikhs, visited this place to spend time in meditation. A gurdwara that was built to commemorate his visit, is now a place of pilgrimage for the Sikhs.
